After Ontario’s 2022 general election, the Ontario NDP Caucus at Queen’s Park wanted to refresh it’s branding to match it’s election branding. The brand of the political party and caucus are similar but have some differences that allow for the branding to be used in places where partisan logos and related design aren’t allowed.
The main goal was to emphasize that it was the parliamentary branch of the ONDP family. This was accomplished by creating a stylized icon of Queen’s Park. It was also necessary to have a bilingual option since part of the NDP caucus represents Northern Ontario and Eastern Ontario, where French language rights and Francophone culture are issues of concern. This required some careful consideration on how to balance the English and French text. The fonts were preserved from the party logo to bridge the gab between the two to create a harmonious brand.
Logos

Bilingual, English and French logos in full colour, partial colour and reverse. Original iterations included trials with a full Queen’s Park icon but it became too complex to show the full building, so a version with the distinctive central block was created.
Brand book

The brand book was designed to be used by staff to help unify our public-facing communications, with easy to follow design guidelines for logos, typography, colour, graphics.
Social media quote graphics

These graphics are used frequently when press releases are posted online. They’re attached to the press release backend online so that when MPPs link to them to highlight their work, the graphic is automatically displayed on the social media post. The intention was to both highlight the MPPs quote and their photo to increase name recognition in their ridings.
MPP wordmarks

Individual wordmarks were created for each MPP to help visually align their work. The wordmarks were paired with logo corner graphics to create a flexible design system that staff could use on MPP photos, graphics and videos as required.
