Health information posters

Patient education is a critical part of the health care system, giving people the information and resources they need to effectively manage their health. Design plays a big role in making this information accessible and easy to understand.

With my expertise in accessible design and health literacy principles, these materials were custom made in collaboration with hospital staff to specifically suit their patients needs. In addition, many have been user-tested to ensure they work as intended.

Hip and knee rehabilitation poster

A large hallway poster for the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation unit at Toronto Rehab Institute. It was designed to show the anatomy of the hip and knee joints, as well as common replacements and repairs. This poster is used to educate patients about their surgical recovery, demonstrate areas of pain, and emphasize the importance of rehabilitation.

Isolation room posters

Instructional posters for entering and exiting isolation rooms at University Health Network hospitals. In this case readability and comprehension were the highest priorities and the design needed to support that. Illustrations were created to help people follow the instructions. The steps required careful consideration for how to break up the steps in understandable pieces.

Safety posters

A small selection of safety related posters – mask instructions for a cancer treatment unit at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and an opioid awareness poster for Toronto Western Hospital.

Anatomy posters

Patient education posters custom designed and illustrated for the Neuroscience Program at Toronto Western Hospital. These are designed to help staff explain to their patients and patient’s family members their diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The brain poster in particular has been instrumental in helping family members of stroke patients understand why the person has changed or lost certain abilities.
