Client: Toronto Stroke Networks

Role: Design

Challenge: People who experience a stroke often face significant life changes during recovery. The Toronto Stroke Networks, in collaboration with Toronto Western Hospital, recognized the need to provide patients, their families and caregivers with information and resources about what to expect and how to manage challenges relating to recovery.

Solution: Written by several subject matter experts, a binder format was chosen in order to accommodate the large amount of content. It was laid out with consideration for the fact that a stroke often results in reading difficulties. Clear, large fonts and plenty of whitespace improve readability. Section markers on the side of each page make it easy to locate sections of the binder. The binder is routinely updated every 2-3 years to incorporate feedback from patients and families as well as changes to clinical practice.
