Client: University Health Network, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Program
Role: Design, illustration, project lead
Challenge: The Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Program helps patients with rehabilitation after joint-related injuries or joint replacements. Physiotherapists in the program found that patients frequently had questions or misunderstandings about their hip or knee surgery. This lack of understanding about health information can contribute to poor health outcomes and low patient satisfaction.
Solution: A large poster was created to show the anatomy of the hip and knee joints, as well as common replacements and repairs. Simple, eye-catching images and plain language captions and labels help patients easily understand the information. This teaching tool is being used to teach patients about their surgery, demonstrate areas causing pain, and emphasize the importance of rehabilitation. Unit staff have stated that the poster is helpful for their patients throughout the rehabilitation process.
