• Client: University Health Network, Patient Education Program
  • Role: Design, illustration
  • Challenge: The Patient Education Program wanted to create a resource to promote Health Literacy Month, an annual awareness month. The concept of health literacy is not well known and it can be difficult to capture interest from the general public.
  • Solution: A special edition of the Patient Education monthly newsletter was created to promote health literacy. Using content written by health librarians, an informative and engaging layout was created. The use of a roadmap theme frames health literacy as a journey to understanding and using health information. Bright graphics are intended to generate interest while keeping the topic light and easy to digest. The newsletter was translated into 3 languages and additional editions of this newsletter were printed in subsequent years for Health Literacy Month. The newsletter has also been used at other healthcare centres around Toronto.
